Welcome, New Patients!
Whether you have a dog, cat, rabbit, guinea pig, ferret, or other small mammal, our team is ready to provide your pet with compassionate, thorough care. Here's everything you need to know to get started.
Your First Visit
Here's what to expect when you bring your pet to Healthy Pet Veterinary Clinic for the first time.
Schedule Your Appointment
Call us at (608) 294-9494 or use our online scheduling tool (look for the icon in the lower right corner of our website). Our front desk team will help find a time that works for you and your pet.
Pre-Booking Deposit: New clients are asked to provide the cost of the exam fee as a pre-booking deposit at the time of scheduling. This deposit is applied directly to your first visit and ensures we can reserve dedicated time for you and your pet.
Gather Your Records
Please contact your previous veterinarian and request that your pet's medical records be sent to our clinic before your first appointment. Records can be emailed to [email protected] — just let your previous vet know. This helps our doctors get a complete picture of your pet's health history right from the start. If you have any vaccination certificates or other documentation at home, bring those along as well.
Meet the Team & Exam
Our team will gather your pet's history, perform a thorough head-to-tail examination, and discuss any concerns you may have. We take the time to get to know both you and your pet so we can provide the best possible care.
Your Pet's Care Plan
Together, we'll develop a personalized treatment plan based on your pet's needs. We believe in educating and empowering pet parents to make informed decisions — we'll explain all options and answer every question you have.
Follow-Up
We'll follow up after your visit to see how your pet is doing. Our team is always available by phone, email, or text at (608) 294-9494 or [email protected] if any questions come up between appointments.

Bringing a small mammal to the vet for the first time? Not every clinic has the advanced training and extensive experience these pets require. Our founder, Dr. Carla Christman, served four years on the board of the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians and brings decades of hands-on experience to every small mammal patient. You're in the right place.
Keep Your Pet Healthy Year-Round
Healthy pets need annual exams. Senior pets (8+ years) or those with medical conditions benefit from checkups every six months to catch changes early. Ask us about our PAW Plans — they bundle essential preventive care into affordable monthly payments with a 10% discount on virtually everything else.
